Monument Valley - ‘Your Cover Blown’
Bristol Couch
We recently filmed Monument Valley performing in Bristol City Centre.
The centre of Bristol has many interesting nooks in which to film, and on this occasion we found ourselves stooped on a pontoon below the bridge leading from the Arnolfini to the Louisiana. Monument Valley (a.k.a. Ned Younger was set to play at the latter, small but crucial, Bristol venue later that evening.
This quiet spot protected us from a prevailing wind and even the nearby traffic was muffled as we ducked below the road. The late afternoon sun, which had earlier been much bolder; suddenly crouched behind a cloud providing a still light that echoed the calm of the water and Ned’s subtle tones.
A bevy of swans cruised over to the pontoon, curious at this strange activity and captivated by the mysterious aura that seemed to settle for a short while. This sensation is no surprise given the song’s depth and striking lyrics. In particular this recollection to the war memorial outside Euston Station is an eerie call to a much more personal sentiment:
“I have seen the glorious dead. Looked at me like they were bleeding again, except; this time their blood runs green not red.”
